A note from the Innkeepers: "We love that our property is in the middle of this charming mountain town, especially since Hill City is so friendly and homey, with easy access to the Mickelson Trail, as well as brimming with history. And we love the central location in the magnificent Black Hills National Forest. Hill City truly is the 'Heart of the Hills!' From our corner we have so many delightful choices for recreational direction that we often park at the stop sign and inquire of each other, 'Which way should we go?' One of our favorite things to do is to take the scenic drive to Sylvan Lake and hike around the lake, soaking in the beauty from granite vantage points along the way. Another favorite is to drive along Mount Rushmore Road and park at Horsethief Lake where we can begin at the boardwalk--on which we may jog a little--and then continue over a bridge to a dirt path that acends to stone steps which take a burst of energy to climb up, but the breathtaking loverlook is well worth the effort. Often on Sunday afternoons we will pick a way to to go to Custer State Park where we may begin our adventure with a nap, then view buffalo and other wildlife and go for a nature walk. We are also fond of the Needles Highway, Cathedral Spires hike, and Iron Mountain Road, which is also dubbed the Pigtail Highway. Various rock outcroppings make lovely picnic settings! Do you see that our little dissertation began and ened with love?"
