A Common Council Government

The City of Hill City operates under the aldermanic form of government, which consists of a common council that is elected by Hill City citizens. The common council is comprised of a Mayor and four Aldermen who take on the responsibility of municipal legislation. In general, the council sets the direction and policies that will govern Hill City.

Electing Aldermen

Each elected official serves a two-year term. The Mayor is an “at-large” position, while Aldermen are elected within established wards, of which Hill City currently has two. Each year, one Alderman position from each ward is up for election, while the election for Mayor is every other year. All elected officials must be qualified residents of the City of Hill City.
