The Public Works Department maintains and oversees the following areas: 

  • Streets
  • Bridges
  • City-Owned Buildings
  • Water Lines
  • Sewer Lines
  • Water and Waste Water Treatment
  • Snow Removal
  • Parks
  • Cemetery

There are also approximately 30 acres of parks the City maintains.

Hill City has approximately 13 miles of paved and graveled streets and .5 miles of graveled alleys that are maintained by Public Works. The crew is responsible for inspection and maintenance of the City's  15 miles of water mains, 15 miles of sewer mains, 4 wells which produce high quality water (treated with fluoride and chlorine), and 2 water storage facilities with storage for 400,000 gallons of water.

The City's water usage averages about 178,400 gallons per day. The crew samples daily for water quality and monthly for bacteria at various points around the City. All crew members are required to obtain and maintain certification for water treatment, water distribution, and wastewater collection.
