South Dakota State Railroad Museum

South Dakota’s unique landscapes spawned one of the most unusual and complex railroad histories in our nation. A history that helped define us as a people and as a state.

The Museum provides visitors with the unique story of railroading through displays, interactive exhibits, an operating HO train layout, and other interactive and educational displays for the entire family. The Museum is conveniently located next to the depot at the 1880 Train in Hill City.

Candyland is located right off Highway 16 by Prairie Berry and Miner Brewing Company.

It offers more than 2,000 different types of candy, ranging from bulk to retro. There are truffles, soda pop, ice cream and even coffee.

Wendy Bobbe the Manager for Candyland, says it is the biggest candy shop in South Dakota right now and hopes to eventually grow even more by adding an outdoor playground.

Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation

The Story of Crazy Horse Memorial

Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski and Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear officially started Crazy Horse Memorial June 3, 1948. The Memorial’s mission is to honor the culture, tradition and living heritage of North American Indians.

Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation demonstrates its ongoing commitment to this promise by following these objectives:

  • Continuing the progress on the world’s largest mountain sculpture, carving a memorial to the spirit of legendary Lakota leader Crazy Horse and his culture;
  • Providing educational and cultural programming to encourage harmony and reconciliation among all people and nations;
  • Acting as a repository for Native American artifacts, arts and crafts through the INDIAN MUSEUM OF NORTH AMERICA® and the NATIVE AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL & CULTURAL CENTER®
  • And by establishing and operating the INDIAN UNIVERSITY OF NORTH AMERICA®, and when practical, a medical training center for American Indians.

A must-see stop and experience when you are in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
