South Dakota State Railroad Museum
South Dakota’s unique landscapes spawned one of the most unusual and complex railroad histories in our nation. A history that helped define us as a people and as a state.
The Museum provides visitors with the unique story of railroading through displays, interactive exhibits, an operating HO train layout, and other interactive and educational displays for the entire family. The Museum is conveniently located next to the depot at the 1880 Train in Hill City.
Museum @ Black Hills Institute
Museum @ Black Hills Institute invites you to travel back in time and discover earth’s past as we decode the ancient language of our Earth, geology, mineralogy, and fossils. The star of our show is “STAN”, one of the most complete Tyrannosaurus rex ever found. Stan is the 2nd largest and 2nd most complete T Rex skeleton and other contemporaries from SD, WY and MT. Our extensive collection of dinosaurs, marine fossils, minerals, meteorites and area paleontological historical displays is conveniently located on Main Street, downtown Hill City, SD.
The Mammoth Site
The Mammoth Site is a working paleontological site/museum. Guided tours with our new wireless TourGuide system. Opening Mid-April 2015 is our Learning Center/theater addition. We will also have a new HD introductory video as part of the theater addition. Sixty-one mammoths and 85 other species of Ice Age fauna have been discovered to-date. Open daily except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and Easter.
Rushmore Cave/Soaring Eagle Zipline
Rushmore Cave is a natural adventure park located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, very close to Mount Rushmore. The Black Hills Central Railroad is the oldest continuously operating tour railroad in the nation and operates three steam and two diesel engines throughout the season. One of our steam engines is close to 100 years old!

Rabbit Bicycle/Black Hills Shuttle
The Rabbit Bicycle staff are your experts on the Mickelson Trail. We are the only full service bicycle shop on the trail and have been servicing the area for over 9 years. Any questions or concerns about your bicycling trip can be answered to ensure you have a wonderful experience visiting the Black Hills. Our shop offers bicycle rentals for children and adults, experience in cycling or not. We offer a shuttle service as well to provide longer rides by dropping your party at designated trail heads. The store has everything you may need, or want, for your bike, including a certified mechanic for any issues that may arrise. We have apparel and nutrition as well.
