Mount Rushmore Rodeo at Palmer Gulch

RODEO, FUN, AND FOOD

Mount Rushmore Resort at Palmer Gulch is home to Mount Rushmore Lodge and Mount Rushmore KOA. And now it’s home to the Mount Rushmore Rodeo.

Activities for rodeo fans are planned before each rodeo. 

  • Barrel racing
  • Saddle bronc riding
  • Bareback riding
  • Bull riding
  • Team roping
  • Kids mutton bustin’
  • Activities before each rodeo
  • Free to resort and KOA guests
  • $10 day-use fee for non-guests, $5 ages 6-12, 5 and under free

Wine, Brew & BBQ

 If you love great BBQ, a flavorful glass of wine or an excellent craftbrew, music and fun--all wrapped up into one event--then Hill City is the place to be for this year's 7th Annual Wine Brew & BBQ! Held Friday and Saturday, August 23rd & 24th, you can join with barbeque lovers from all over the region and beyond to sample lovingly-created BBQ from more than 30 of the best Pit Masters and BBQ enthusiasts. Vote for your favorite in the People's Choice Competition, always a crowd pleaser.  And bring your family! Kids will enjoy seeing the "Kids Q" Junior Competition, new this year. Enjoy tasty fare at BBQ Alley or grab a brew or glass of wine from the Wine & Brew Village and head for the live music. Two Days of Fun And Food

Hosted by the Mount Rushmore Resort at Palmer Gulch, home to Mount Rushmore KOA and Mount Rushmore Lodge, Polkapalooza is a summertime favorite for traveler and locals alike. At only $5 per person per night for admission, Polkapalooza is a bargain. On Friday night, sample some authentic German food and drink. Then show off your dancing moves. Then come back for Day 2 of this Friday-Saturday celebration, Sept. 6th & 7th, 2019.

Night Blast: Crazy Horse Memorial

September 6th - Crazy Horse & Korczak Night Blast

The second traditional night blast of the year is on September 6th. The blast honors the dual anniversaries of the 1877 death of Crazy Horse and of the 1908 birth of sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski.

The public is welcome to the night blasts. After 5:00 p.m. on September 6th the Memorial gratefully accepts three cans of food per person in lieu of the regular admission fee. Regular admission is charged for those without food. Because the night blasts are among the Memorial’s most popular events, the public is advised to arrive early. The restaurant at Crazy Horse closes at 4pm on the evenings of the night blasts, but the Snack Shop remains open.

2019 Hill City Quilt Show & Sale

2019 Hill City Quilt Show & Sale -

Located in the Hill City Middle School gyms, 488 E Main St, Hill City, SD 57745.

Join us September 7 & 8 from 9 am – 4 pm daily for this two-day celebration of fabric arts. The show features a vendor mall, demonstrations, prizes, special events, and over 200 beautiful quilts.

Special events will include a Featured Artist, a Bed-Turning & Supper on Saturday, and a Pillowcase Roundup to help area kids in need. More details TBA.

Admission is $5 at the door for adults. Kids ages 18 & under get in free.

Enjoy a fun-filled weekend that includes an Arts Festival and Craft Show with 150 exhibitors selling Native American and Western Arts and Crafts and South Dakota Made Products. Non-stop entertainment under the big top features dancers, bands, and poets. Educational programs are also conducted throughout the weekend featuring educational talks, bluegrass music, speakers from the surrounding Black Hills area, and living history demonstrations. 7th Annual Fall Volksmarch, Crazy Horse Memorial

7th Annual Fall Volksmarch - September 29, 2019
This autumn hike on Sunday, September 30th is held the same weekend as the Custer State Park Buffalo Round-Up. It is the public’s second chance of the year to walk up the world’s largest mountain carving in progress.

The Crazy Horse Volksmarch is the most popular organized hike in the United States (15,000 walkers in a record year). This family event is sponsored by the Black Hills Chapter of the American Volksmarch Association (AVA) and hosted by Crazy Horse Memorial.

*Volksmarches are held, weather permitting.
