South Dakota Students Art Competition at the South Dakota State Railroad Museum

You are invited to attend the second annual South Dakota Railroad Museum’s Student Arts Competition beginning on Saturday, July 4th.
The Museum is open 8:30AM to 4:30PM daily to the public through October 11. Please refer to www.sdsrm.org for 2020’s dates events, and specific hours of operation.
SAVE ON ADMISSION: The Museum will offer a one-half price discount ($3.50 per adult, 10 and under FREE) for those that mention the Student Art exhibit.
Through October 11th, the Museum is featuring the juried Art Exhibit featuring pieces created by over 50 South Dakota students from fifteen school districts. Many of the original art works (created on authentic railroad dispatcher’s sheets) will also be for sale. Other prints and original pieces of railroad art will also be for sale during the exhibit.
“It is a delightful getaway in the Heart of the Hills for a day or a weekend,” said Rick Mills, the Museum’s curator. “We invite everyone to experience the art and new Museum exhibits during our 10th anniversary year.”

8TH ANNUAL FALL VOLKSMARCH - SEPTEMBER 26TH AND SEPTEMBER 27TH, 2020 (SPECIAL 2 DAY EVENT)

Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation and BHVA will host the Fall Volksmarch in September. The autumn hike will be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 26th and 27th and will be held the same weekend as the Custer State Park Buffalo Round-Up.

CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL ORIENTATION

Before or after your hike, don’t miss the short introductory movie “Dreams Do Come True” playing in the twin theaters in the Welcome Center. Also be sure to see THE INDIAN MUSEM OF NORTH AMERICA®Sculptor’s Studio / Home Workshop and THE NATIVE AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL CENTER®. Meet and visit with Native American artists creating arts and crafts in the museum and cultural center.

COST

Admission is waived for volksmarchers. A donation of three cans of food per person is appreciated. The American Volkssport Association's hike fee is $3 for each participant regardless of age. Regular admission applies to non-hikers.

PARKING

FREE. Due to the popularity of the event, parking can be some distance from the starting point and not on paved or gravel surfaces. Shuttle buses operate between these outlying parking lots and the start-finish area.

REGISTRATION

No advance registration. Hikers must check in at starting point, which is at the Memorial’s upper parking area. Registration will begin at 8:00 am. Hikers must register before 1 p.m. and be off the trail by 4 p.m.

STARTING TIMES

Anytime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
