South Dakota Students Art Competition at the South Dakota State Railroad Museum

You are invited to attend the second annual South Dakota Railroad Museum’s Student Arts Competition beginning on Saturday, July 4th.
The Museum is open 8:30AM to 4:30PM daily to the public through October 11. Please refer to www.sdsrm.org for 2020’s dates events, and specific hours of operation.
SAVE ON ADMISSION: The Museum will offer a one-half price discount ($3.50 per adult, 10 and under FREE) for those that mention the Student Art exhibit.
Through October 11th, the Museum is featuring the juried Art Exhibit featuring pieces created by over 50 South Dakota students from fifteen school districts. Many of the original art works (created on authentic railroad dispatcher’s sheets) will also be for sale. Other prints and original pieces of railroad art will also be for sale during the exhibit.
“It is a delightful getaway in the Heart of the Hills for a day or a weekend,” said Rick Mills, the Museum’s curator. “We invite everyone to experience the art and new Museum exhibits during our 10th anniversary year.”

Hill City Quilt Show and Sale

2020 Hill City Quilt Show & Sale - Located in the Hill City Middle School gyms, 488 E Main St, Hill City, SD 57745.

Join us September 12 & 13 from 9 am – 4 pm daily for this two-day celebration of fabric arts. The show features a vendor mall, demonstrations, prizes, special events, and over 200 beautiful quilts.  Featured Quilt Artist for the Quilt Show is Sue Gies.

Admission is $5 at the door for adults. Kids ages 18 & under get in free.

Special events will include a Featured Artist, a Bed-Turning & Supper on Saturday, and a Pillowcase Roundup to help area kids in need. 

Xi Alpha Chi Presents: Bed-Turning Show & Supper on Saturday, September 12th at 5:00 pm.  Location for the show is The Little White Church-525 Main St. Hill City.  Featured Quilt Artist for the Bed Turning show is Vicki Barlean, owner of Quilt Time.

Advance reservations are required for the Bed Turning & Supper.  Tickets for this event are $20.00 and can be requested by calling Kay at 605.574.2937 for tickets.  Payment can be made at the door.

Bring a quilt for the bed and a story to share.

Experience the beauty of the Black Hills from the back of your mountain bike, via the ** Mickelson Trail.

Riders will depart Deadwood (mile 108.8) starting at 6:30am Water stations and stops along the route: Rochford, Mystic, Hill City, Custer, Pringle, Minnekahta

Wine Express at the 1880 Train

What better way to enjoy fall in the Black Hills than riding an authentic steam engine while sipping local wines paired with tasty food courses! Live entertainment in station will be provided by local western musician, Brent Morris. Train departs Hill City station, and the roundtrip ride takes approximately 2 hours. Departs at 1:30 pm and 5:00 pm.

$62 Adults – One ticket price

Must be 21 years of age or older

Ticket includes food, wine, keepsake glass and live entertainment. One menu offered. Feel free to bring your own food on board to meet your individual dietary needs. Nonalcoholic beverages will also be available.

Passengers must arrive in advance to check in with ticket agent and pick up tickets in the Hill City Depot. Tickets are listed under the last name given at the time reservation was made.

Group rates are not available for special event rides.
