    The Hill City Arts Council presents a Live Concert of Celtic Music for St. Patrick’s Day Saturday March 14th at Desperados on Main St and McGregor St. Featured artists are Marty Meyer & Wolf, Mike Linderman, Ken & Cory Tomovick and Sting Tied. The event is free, however donations are appreciated to continue offering this venue.

    24th annual Crazy Horse Volksmarch hike to the face.The Crazy Horse Volksmarch is the most popular organized hike in the United States. It is a 10K (6.2-mile) hike to the arm of the world's largest mountain carving in progress . www.crazyhorsememorial.org/events/

  • June 13 - Hill City Volksmarch - www.ava.org This march is sponsored by the Black Hills Volks March Association Walk on Mickelson Trail through Hill City. Held in conjunction with the Heart of the Hills celebration Walk on forest service property. Walk along Railroad Ave. to Main Street. Black Hills Overdrive will have a car show in Hill City during Volksmarch. 5K & 10K - 2 .www.ava.org/clubs/bhva
  • June 19 - 21 - Crazy Horse Stampede Rodeo and Gift from Mother Earth Celebration
    The 19th annual Crazy Horse Stampede Rodeo is one of the few rodeos with both a Professional Rodeo Cowboy's Association (PRCA) events and Great Plains Indian Rodeo Association (GPIRA) events.

    A juried sculpture show and sale featuring artists from across the nation along with city-wide events. www.hillcityarts.org

July

  • July 3 - Fireworks at Mt. Rushmore
    See the annual Mt. Rushmore fireworks display from the comfort of the 1880 Train. Reserve in advance
    605-574-2222. Leave Hill City at 7:30pm and travel to the viewing area. Champagne or soda will be served on the train. Once there you will de-board the train, have a deluxe picnic box and view the fireworks. Fireworks are viewed from the side of Mt. Rushmore, approximately 1-2 miles from the memorial.

  • July 25th - The Alice Smith Flower Show
    Categories include annuals, perennials, potted specimens, arrangements, table settings and children's division. Organized by the Evergreen Garden Club.

August

  • August 1-8 - Bikers's Breakfast with the Senior Citizens
    Lots of food and friendly entertainment. All you can eat breakfast.
  • August 8 & 9 - Tucker Day
    Special needs children from around the area can participate in events tailored to their physical limitations.
    Saturday the 8th - 6:00 - 10:00 - Barbeque and Cowboy Music by campfiree, hay rides.
    Sunday the Aug 9th - 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Rodeo Entry and Preactivies, Kid's games and entertainment.

  • August 15-24 - Primal Quest
    Co-ed teams of four will race without support crews through the Badland and the Black Hills. Athletes will spelunk in cave systems and test their climbing abilities. Racers will traverse many miles of single track in the mountain biking sections. Teams will run with herds of buffalo and share the trail with deer, prairie dogs, turkeys, elk and big horn sheep.

  • September 6 - Crazy Horse Memorial - Night Blast
    Night blast commemorating the 1877 death of Crazy Horse & 1908 birth of Korczak Ziolkowski. Crazy Horse Memorial are the two night blasts traditionally held each year. The spectacular ceremonial blasts light up the mountain with incredible fireballs and specially designed pyrotechnical features.
  • September 11-12 - German Fall Fest

    Parade, music, cowboy poetry, Western art, children's game and horse events round out this three day event.

  • October 31 - Freight Train - 1880 Train
    A hauntingly good time for folks 21 or older! Enjoy the train from Hill City to Oblivion and back, with scary entertainment en route, three glasses of wine with a keepsake glass and a snack to go with each wine. Costumes encouraged, although please take into consideration we MUST be able to see your face and ID for age verification. www.1880train.com
