Truly western; The Mount Rushmore Rodeo at Palmer Gulch. Cowboys and Cowgirls will compete in BULL Riding, Bronc Riding, Team Roping and Barrel Racing. The Clowns and "Mutton Bustin" are sure to please the crowd. Cowboys and Cowgirls will sign autographs followed by a Cowboy dance with Live Music. See ya at the Rodeo!!
Crazy Horse & Korczak Night Blast, Crazy Horse Memorial

September 6, 2018 - Crazy Horse & Korczak Night Blast
The second traditional night blast of the year is on September 6th. The blast honors the dual anniversaries of the 1877 death of Crazy Horse and of the 1908 birth of sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski.
The public is welcome at the night blasts. After 5:00 p.m. on September 6th the Memorial gratefully accepts three cans of food per person for the KOTA Care and Share Food Drive in lieu of the regular admission fee. Because the night blasts are among the Memorial’s most popular events, the public is advised to arrive early. The restaurant at Crazy Horse closes at 4pm on the evenings of the night blasts but the Snack Shop remains open.
Important note: Night blasts are conducted on a “weather permitting” basis.

Polkapalooza at Palmer Gulch

Hosted by the Mount Rushmore Resort at Palmer Gulch, home to Mount Rushmore KOA and Mount Rushmore Lodge, Polkapalooza is a summertime favorite for traveler and locals alike.
At only $5 per person per night for admission, Polkapalooza is a bargain.
On Friday night, sample some authentic German food and drink. Then show off your dancing moves.

This indoor/outdoor quilt show and sale features more than 200 quilts, an event dinner, trunk show, open mic show-and-tell and vendors. A quilter’s dream!
New in 2018, the Hill City Arts Council has partnered with Hill City merchants and quilters for the annual September Hill City Quilt Show, featuring the artistry of quilting. Be sure to add it to your calendar of "must-do" activities!

Trolley on the Trail

Trolley rides allow those with physical
limitations to experience the beautiful George S. Mickelson Trail.
Designed for mobility impaired & elderly primarily, but is for people of all ages who are physically unable to experience the trail.
The rides are held in the summer and are approximately 4 hours long. Reservations are REQUIRED. Each person is allowed one assistant to accompany them, if needed. The Trolley has space available for one wheelchair.

Arts Festival & Buffalo Roundup, Custer

Enjoy a fun-filled weekend that includes an Arts Festival and Craft Show with 150 exhibitors selling Native American and Western Arts and Crafts and South Dakota Made Products. Non-stop entertainment under the big top features dancers, bands, and poets. Educational programs are also conducted throughout the weekend featuring educational talks, bluegrass music, speakers from the surrounding Black Hills area, and living history demonstrations. 53rd Annual Buffalo Roundup, Custer State Park

Witness one of the last great events of the Old West: the Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup. Watch cowboys and cowgirls on horseback and park crews in pickups round up the 1,300 buffalo and drive them into the corrals. Following the roundup, watch park crews sort, brand and vaccinate the herd in preparation for the fall sale.
