Custer State Park in the Black Hills encompasses 71,000 acres of spectacular terrain and an abundance of wildlife. Within the park, you'll discover a world of adventure!
The newly constructed Custer State Park Visitor Center is open to the public 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. MDT.
A herd of 1,300 bison roams freely throughout the park, often stopping traffic along the 18-mile Wildlife Loop Road. The herd is one of the largest publically-owned herds in the world.
Custer State Park boasts several scenic drives that explore the diversity of the area. From the granite spires of Needles Highway to the bison along WIldlife Loop Road.
The park includes lodges at Sylvan Lake, Legion Lake, Blue Bell and the State Game Lodge. Each resort has its own flavor, ranging from the stately Game Lodge, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, to the mini dude ranch at Blue Bell.

Mountain View Lodge & Cabins
Enjoy your Black Hills vacation at our lodge and cabins within minutes to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park. Ride on the Mickelson trail or kick back at Sheridan lake 2 miles away. Rise in the morning with a "Get-you-started" breakfast, tour the area, then spend your cool mountain night on our covered deck, cookout on gas grills, take a dip in our pool, snuggle by a campfire, and enjoy scent of pine. All rooms have microwave and fridge; we offer family suites, and units for groups up to 6. Our cabins have full size kitchens and kitchenettes, with views of the pines. Newton Fork Ranch
We offer six intimate real log cabins and two historic ranch houses for nightly or weekly rental year-round. Our log cabins circle a picturesque meadow and are placed well back from the road. Newton Fork Ranch will become your “home away from home;” your peaceful oasis from a world filled with time constraints and non-stop activity. Our fully furnished and well-equipped log cabins will afford you a welcome respite from a hectic life. An afternoon sitting on the deck watching wildlife or an evening spent by a warm fire will transport you to a far simpler and more tranquil time.
Each log cabin features a full kitchen with range, refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, cookware, dinnerware and utensils. Each also has a gas fireplace, gas barbeque, an old-fashioned clawfoot bathtub or rock shower, towels, bedding, and a porch with breathtaking views. Five have lofts and comfortably sleep up to four people. Our sixth, which has a view of Black Elk Peak (formerly Harney Peak), is a two-bedroom and can sleep up to eight.
Our historic two-bedroom Grandma's Ranch House has a wood-burning fireplace, was built in 1914, and sleeps up to six. The famed Original Badger Clark cabin is "off-the-grid," sleeps two, is heated by a pot-bellied stove, and is for adventurous guests interested in South Dakota's first Poet Laureate and in turning back the clock to a by-gone era. All of our cabins are placed a short distance apart to afford peace and tranquility.
We have a private access gate that opens directly onto the Mickelson trail.
PETS: Newton Fork Ranch welcomes guests traveling with their well-behaved pets. GUESTS TRAVELING WITH HORSES: we have two heavy-duty 12' x 12' paneled corrals available for a small rental fee. Located in a lovely aspen grove, there is also room for guests to erect their own electric fencing if preferred. Call for details.
Rustic Ridge Guest Cabins

The Double Diamond Ranch is a beautiful horse ranch close to Mt. Rushmore and Custer State Park. We have spectacular views, two creeks on our property, lots of wildlife and the local herd of bighorn sheep. Our cabins and vacation homes can sleep from 2-14 guests Our suites can sleep up to 6. We have hot tubs, fireplaces, air conditioning, satellite tv, wifi, cell phone service, gas grills and washer/dryers. Some of our accommodations have firepits and some are pet friendly.
